Greeley County Health Services (GCHS) in Tribune, Kansas, is now accepting applications for Chief Executive Officer (CEO). GCHS primarily serves both Greeley and Wallace Counties in western Kansas (both counties are on the Colorado border) and is actively expanding its regional impact through collaboration and partnerships.

The Role & Scope
The CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational success of the Greeley County Health Services “system” which includes a 25-bed rural Critical Access Hospital (CAH), Long Term Care (LTC) center, and two Rural Health Clinics (RHC’s). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, financial stability, and strong community relationships. The CEO directly oversees the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), and Chief Operating Officer (COO), and works collaboratively with medical staff and department leaders to advance the organization’s mission and vision.

While this list is not exhaustive, some of the key competencies and attributes for success in this role include: 1) strong alignment with GCHS’s mission, vision and values, 2) excellent motivator of others, who leads collaboratively; 3) confident…and humble, 4) visionary who can also execute, 5) genuine passion and drive, and 6) community-focus.

The Organization
GCHS is a dynamic and thriving organization – a quiet gem in rural (“pioneer”) healthcare – and is expanding its regional impact (e.g., through surgical and oncological services). The organization has sustained strong clinical and financial performance and intends to continue expanding its service offerings. The successful candidate will be expected to build on this strong foundation and keep the momentum going. Other organizational highlights include but are not limited to:

  • An excellent and dedicated medical staff.
  • A strong, tenured and successful leadership team.
  • Financial strength as measured by 12% average annual net revenue growth over the last 6 years, and 150 days cash on hand.
  • Recent major investments in facilities.
The Area
Located about 3.0-3.5 hours east/southeast of Colorado Springs and Denver in the wide-open beauty of western Kansas, Tribune and Greeley County offer an exceptional quality of life characterized by safety, affordability, and genuine community connection. As the county seat, Tribune combines small-town warmth with big-sky tranquility, and a culture where neighbors know and support one another. With abundant outdoor space, strong local schools, and a pace of life that allows leaders to focus on what matters most, Tribune and the surrounding area is an ideal home for professionals seeking meaningful impact in a close-knit community.

Given that community is an important aspect of this role, please note that the successful candidate will be expected to fully relocate to the area – coming to work Monday through Friday and leaving the community every weekend is not considered to be sustainable for success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years progressive healthcare leadership experience
  • Rural/Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience reporting to a governing board
